"We are like the tiny pin point of a vast energetic universe of light and colour. We are the end of the thread that weaves itself back to the source. We are the beautiful exquisite culmination of a palette of colourful creative energies that desire expression. We are not separate and never can be, nor ever will.

Everything you touch is you. Every word you utter is who you are. Every breath is the life reborn in you each day. You are magical beyond words; you are a miracle. Believe in yourself as Spirit believes in you. Believe that, as you came into the world as an expression of the Divine, so you can equally create the Divine in your life right now. It is no more or less than who you truly are."

The Chakras

Within each of us are magical wheels of whirling energy we have called the chakras of which there are seven main centres situated from the top of our head down to the base of our spine. Each chakra is a world of its own and we can exist from the parameters of that world at any time so it is a good idea to have some concept of what that may mean. Sometimes we spend a whole lifetime coming from the energy of one chakra.

"Chakra" is a Sanskrit phrase meaning circle or wheel. These energetic 'wheels' resonate at a particular frequency within us which gives them their colour but also experience in life.  Our chakras are regulators of the elements in which we as souls in human form are composed. They keep us intact, maintain our systems, adjust the flow of energy and both receive light from our Soul source and transmit it. Each chakra is linked to a gland within the endocrine system, to an element and to a function within our body. Our chakras do not operate in isolation but in constant flow one with another intrinsically linking and communicating with each other. We are not human beings so much as beings of light in human form. Our creation is a miracle, our composition a masterpiece. We are carefully crafted vehicles housing our souls. We are made up of matter (earth,) water, heat (fire,) oxygen (air,) and prana (ether) and all the minutiae molecules of substance and energy that is the make up of each of these elements. We are pulsations of light energy operating on different frequencies. Our highest chakras vibrate at a higher rate and gradually the frequencies lower until we arrive at our base or root chakra, which has the densest frequency, and allows us to be in physical form.

Each chakra is a gateway to the active intelligence of our Soul. It tells its own story and supports us in a particular area of our life. Wherever there is an issue or problem in our life there is a blockage in the natural pulsation, the inward/outward movement of one of our chakras. Once the energy flows again and is once more relating with all the other chakras then the problem or issue is resolved. We are in the flow giving of ourselves and available to receive. We are then living a life that is true to us instead of a conditioned one. We are able to receive the messages from our higher self and reflect them back into the world.

These are our main Chakras:

Base Chakra The Root Chakra

The Root chakra, at the base of our spine, is all about where we are now, not just in place, but in who we are and how we experience our life. This chakra is linked to our home in the greatest sense of the word. It is about our community, our friends and family and those we meet on a daily basis. All these connections relate to our Root chakra; the basis for our life. How we share our life, how we relate with people in general, how connected we feel to our “tribe” (the tribe is our family, our work colleagues and the tribe of our community) is part of the consciousness of our first chakra.

The message of the first or Root chakra is Trust – trust in the Earth and her ultimate care for us, trust in our tribe and trust in life. It is a deep trust that the life we are experiencing is bringing us exactly what we need. Ultimately it is a trust in our self and our home. The Root chakra is the fundamental chakra for all the others because we would not be here on this earth if it was not for this chakra. It is very much about survival. The predominant resonance or colour of the Root chakra is traditionally red, though each chakra actually contains all the colours. It is positive to visualise a beautiful vibrant red rose at the area at the base of your spine. This helps to balance and activate the energy.

Tuning in to the Root chakra can have a calming and balancing effect especially on the entire nervous system. If you are preoccupied and in your head this is an especially good exercise to do as it brings you back into your body and connects you to the Earth again. The Root chakra helps you to relax reminding you of your constant and ultimate connection with Mother Earth. To give you an impression of the nature of this chakra imagine being in a cave in the depths of the ground where the walls are made of deep red rock. You feel safe, contained, nurtured, rather like being in a womb, and you feel the immense weight of the earth above you and are bathed in the profoundly earthy smells. This cave seems to have a root, like an umbilical cord, that extends from its centre right down into the bowels of the Earth. This root is your constant connection to this Earth and to your home on this planet.

Second ChakraThe Second Chakra

The second chakra is pure feminine energy in the flow of creation. It is our natural expression moving from intention into creation, from a seed into form, from love into life. This is all about being in the flow, feeling, sensing, and experiencing the wonderful fullness of physical being. It is about our sexual expression; an expression of that which we offer to another human being that becomes the well-spring of another, our child, as the two unite. Because it is the pure feminine it magnetically attracts the masculine in a way that can be very positive, life enhancing and creative but when we are not in harmony with this chakra it can equally be destructive.

Our second chakra or Hara is linked with fluid from the waters of the womb that bathed us in the first nine months of our life as a human being, to the flow of life, to the cycles of the seasons and the movement of the moon with the tides of the sea. All of these outer rhythms provide a sense of inner rhythm in our lives; knowledge of timing, of the patience of knowing that when the time is right the seed will sprout. Three quarters of our body is water and three quarters of the Earth is covered with water. We are intrinsically linked to our watery planet, a part of her nature and we move in tune with her tides, her breathing, and her cycles.

The second chakra is traditionally linked to the colour orange and is found about a hands width beneath the navel. It can be healing and comforting to visualise the colour orange in this area.  Orange is a joyful colour. It can assist with feelings of depression and low energy. It brings confidence, independence and is generally uplifting and healing

The message of this chakra is all about our Connection and creativity. So within this part of our human journey we seek human contact and connection. When we connect we create. Whether we are discovering connection with ourselves and our own expression or whether we are connecting with another we are creating something more than we experienced as one. When energies meet they become greater than they were alone and we can never be sure what is created because the energy we meet is beyond our own control.

We experience our emotions in the second chakra and this part of our journey is concerned with the chemistry and magnetism that exists between us as people – literally “energy in motion.” As we meet with others we connect with one another’s electro-magnetic field including the hologram of our individual experiences. Through connecting and sharing our energy we create a third energy and we thereby continue to evolve. “Chemistry” comes from the Egyptian word “khem” meaning “earth” originally in reference to the fertility of the flood planes around the Nile River. It originated from the ancient study of how to transmute “earthen” metals into gold as in alchemy and means “cast together.” We are cast together on our human journey and form a blend of alchemical connections that can truly create gold when we are ready for the riches of real relationship and once in harmony this chakra assists us in creating the most beautiful connections both with others, with life and with our self.

    The Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus is related to our fire; the inner shining glow of our creation; our purpose, why we are here. It has a direct relationship with our Source; to the initial impulse that fired us into being. It is pure yang energy and it is bright like the sun and similar in colour. We can imagine having a sun at our Solar Plexus area between our umbilicus and our heart. We feel directed, in control, sure of our selves. We have come from Mother energy; feeling held, being in touch with our depths, our feelings and our connection with others and life and now we move to Father energy; walking our talk; being who we are, reaching out and becoming active in the world. It is the area of personal power, of feeling alive and enthusiastic, full of vital force, motivated and focussed.

We discover here that we do not need outside approval because we simply approve of ourselves; we do not require outside respect because we simply respect ourselves; we do not need the power of others because we empower our self. Being in one's power is accepting that one is imperfect in one's perfection. Being in one's power is knowing oneself  and not asking to be or desiring to be other than that. We were born with the gifts, qualities, traits and aspirations needed to fulfill our purpose in this lifetime. All we need to do is to fulfill that purpose is to be who we are. We never have to take from another if we are living our own truth. That becomes impossibility.

So the message of this chakra concerns our Power. Our power source is our fire. It is our joy and our warmth. It is what makes us excited, inspired, hopeful, positive and passionate. With this fire we are able to progress towards and achieve our goals. Without it we work with will and reserves of energy that are needed elsewhere. If we continue to work in this way we will eventually experience exhaustion, lethargy, depression and overwhelm. To nourish our fire we need to be on course towards our true purpose. Our power is linked to our purpose.

This energy is magnaminous. It is large and enthusiastic and generally feels positive. It's about success and it wants us to succeed. We feel ready to be recognised for what we do. We suddenly find that we are the drive to accomplish tasks; we feel committed; ready for what life has to offer us. But we need to take care not to be overly optomistic after the depths of our preceding journey. Every part of our journey is about integrating what has gone before so that we can fully embrace where we are now and reap the benefits and be ready for what is to come.

The Heart Chakra

The first and foremost relationship we have is with ourselves. This is the relationship that is more important than any other. We need firstly to relate to ourselves, to look in the mirror and recognise out own beauty; our own divinity and to truly see how amazing we are. To know our heart is to know our self. Our heart always knows and has never ben separate. When we give our heart a chance to speak to us we are given the truth of our selves. This is self-knowledge. This is not the knowledge of others; it is our own. No one can tell us our own truth. Only our heart can know this. It is the ultimate responsibility to choose to listen to our own heart despite all externals and outer messages. The more that we take our attention back to our heart the more we know it and the more we thus know our self.

This self is not the one we take to work, to the shops, not the self who watches T.V., drives the car, worries over the bills. It is the inner self, the one beyond all the things we do, the things we say or think; the self that remains when we take everything else away. When everything has been stripped away so that we are left only with our heart we imagine that we will feel small and vulnerable; we fear loss and lack; we are afraid there will be nothing left. But this is the place of greatest expansion, of vast joy, of endless bliss without limitation. This is our inner house of the Soul, our home. Home is where the heart is.

The message of the Heart is simply Love. Arriving here we discover unconditional and universal love. The traditional colour for the Heart Chakra is green but it also resonates with pink and more recently many people are feeling the pink quality of their Heart Chakra. This chakra is located in the centre of our chest next to our physical heart. It can be compared to a vessel of love and it is no co-incidence that, were we to have wings, they would sprout from the back of the Heart Chakra. Attuned to our heart we can more easily feel the presence of our angels.

When we are feeling appreciation and gratitude we are far more likely to access the consciousness of the heart than when we are feeling resentment, guilt, distrust, distress, judgement, anger and so on. It is when we feel beyond attachment that we access the heart in all its wonder. It is then that our heart opens like a flower receiving the warmth of the sun. If we are feeling negative our heart closes like a small bud hiding from the cold. It is within the heart that we truly forgive. Forgiveness is not so much about understanding that which we have previously judged (though this is part of it,) more importantly, it is recreating our past so that it better reflects what we desire for the future. Where ever we have not forgiven holds us. When we do not forgive we hold events in our life at a particular resonance or vibration. These energetic vibrations inform our present and are the well-spring of our present life experience. They create the hologram of our image of life as it is for us now.

   The Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is linked to our mental body, the place where our mental life occupies us. In other cultures it is called "visuddha" which means "pure" and we hear the quote "pure of mind, pure of thought." When we arrive at this part of our journey having gained insights and knowledge of who we are, how we relate, what our purpose in life is and what we love,♠ we are challenged to both communicate and express it in the world. We are challenged to manifest our dreams and create the life we love by the expression of who we are.

It connects to our voice, our words, our hearing and the principle osf sound. It is our intellect and our ability to bring ideas into consciousness and understand. Clarity is achieved. We no longer act from a place of survival, we no longer react. We can form beliefs and become detached. The Throat Chakra gives vocal expression, but also facial expression and expression in gesture. It is the way we communicate our self. It is our spoken word when we give voice to the feeling of the heart and when we truly express in connection with our heart we allow others to connect from and open their hearts too. When we speak only from the mental plane we block connection. This is the place of our dreams and desires. It is a time of reasoning and seeking knowledge and of consciousness. The throat is linked to knowledge on the human plane, learning, making sense of and integrating the information we receive in our life. It is linked to memory and activating this chakra can help with memory retrieval and also bring past events to our attention for healing.

The traditional colour of the Throat Chakra is bright blue and it is located near the dip at the base of our neck. In a way the Throat Chakra is the message itself. It is our messenger sending forth the message of who we are at the same time as connecting to the ways in which we receive and implement the messages from all around us. It is connected with all ways of communication; of giving and receiving information, of learning and teaching, of listening and being heard. But it is first and foremost about communicating our Truth.

  The Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye is a journey into our unconscious. Where as with the preceding chakra we are working with our mental faculties and the understanding and perception of our mind, in this part of our journey we move deeper into levels beyond our conscious thought and mind. We discover our hidden motives and desires and our spiritual calling. We listen to intuition and discover the power of the higher mind. We have access to inner knowing. This is a place of clairvoyance and deeper understanding and connection. It is beyond separation and where our male and female aspects are entirely united and we become knower of our past, present and future.

Earth dissolves into water in the second chakra and becomes the essence of smell. Water, upon contact with the fire of the Solar Plexus, evaporates into the essence of taste. The form of fire enters the fifth chakra and becomes the essence of vision. The air that inspires enters the fifth chakra and becomes pure sound. In the sixth the essence of all five is embodied and integrated and is free of all lower elements. The Third Eye is where we become conscious of our being, our truth at the deepest level, where we achieve self realisation. It is linked with the pineal gland; the all-seeing eye and to our own light - the internal light we emit as human beings. The Third Eye is our conscience. Our physical eyes see our past and our present. The Third Eye reveals to us our future. It is a place of neutrality, of peace and of total quiet. The quiet mind. It is the space of the void within us. External changes no longer matter or pose a problem. The mind attains a place of awareness beyond duality or separation.

This is a time of awakening; of awakening of our self and of the other, the dropping of illusions, of projections and expectation to just being. It is a very special place and leads to high connection that lasts lifetime after lifetime. The Third Eye is linked to the pineal gland which was the last gland of the system to have its function discovered. It is located in the centre of the brain and is sometimes called the "All Seeing Eye." It is about the size of a pea situated behind our eyes. The gland is activated by light and light and colour are important to this chakra. It controls the bio-rhythms of our body and works in close harmony with our hypothalamus. The pineal secretes melanin in times of relaxation and visualisation. It responds to electro-magnetic energy and it is through this gland, like an upward-turned eye, that we create a line of communication with higher dimensions, our higher self and other guides. We experience realisations, telepathy, visualisations and higher consciousness. We can become aware of energy fields and auras around other people and living organisms. The colour associated with this chakra is indigo, a beautiful deep cobalt blue. Focussing this colour on the area in the centre of your forehead can have a deeply calming healing and serene effect.

The Crown Chakra

When we come to our Crown we understand what is temporary in our life and what is eternal. This the crown of our experience. It is not more than the rest but it it is the crowning experience because it integrates it all. When your journey brings you here it is far simpler than you might have imagined, and part of this simplicity is an acceptance of who you are at every level. An acceptance of your human frailty, your human journeyand the present moment in which you find yourself. This is when self-love becomes possible. This love just is. It is time to allow the wounds, the pain, the old shadows to wash away so that the miracle that is you can find its place in the world. It is time for the mind that is God within to blend with the heart that is God within to reconcile all the parts of you that you have judhed and just love. It is so simple that all it requires is surrender.
